Great British Picnic

Although the British weather is currently less than cheerful, this month's style tip is all about positive thinking within your home to encourage some glorious sunshine in the later months! Think parks, gingham and Great British animals. Steering clear of Union Jacks and Cupcakes, this tip shows you how to interpret the theme for all things British with a touch of sophistication.

Sanderson - 'Scotty'

Sanderson - 'Musette'

For a fun and quirky twist to a room, why not try Sanderson's 'Scotty' on accessories throughout the room - try foot stools, scatter cushions and doorstops for a nod of humour, whilst keeping that country farmhouse look. For a more subtle interpretation, try Sanderson's 'Musette' on a roman blind, bringing the fresh air of a picnic inside. Pair these fabrics with gingham for a cute contrast. Keep your colour palette in soft shades to avoid the look becoming twee. To make the most of this style tip expose the floor boards, keep accessories rustic and decorate your shelves with jam jars, coloured glassess and any essential picnic equipment! (All of the above fabric is available from Sasha Interiors, Hereford.)

or...

Personalise it!

Keep bits and bobs in wicker hampers and go for an eclectic look with crockery; displaying mis-match items that you have collected or inherited over the years.

Experiment with:

  • Your own patchwork picnic blanket to double up as a throw - the more jumbled the better!
  • Flowers from your garden - in vases, milk jugs or wine bottles, they are sure to freshen up your room with that meadow- sweet smell.
