Flights of Fancy

Swooping swallows and delicate feathers winging their way from Sanderson's new Aegean collection bring us the focus of this month's style tip. Think of warm yellows and olive greens to welcome Autumn.

Sanderson 'Song Birds' fabric

Sanderson - 'Themis' wallpaper

Welcoming nature into your home, these fabrics and wallpapers are bound to create a serene atmosphere. For a delicate injection of our feathered friends, try adding some elegant curtains in Sanderson's timeless Song Birds fabric. For a more dramatic style, add a feature wall and paper any alcoves in Sanderson's Themis wallpaper, the bright pops of colour will bring the room to life, without being too overpowering. To compliment the scheme, add sheer linen curtains and a vase of peacock feathers. Highlight the accent colours with trendy coloured glass light fittings. Keep other furniture in the room light or translucent where possible; a glass coffee table, wirework stools or a natural weave fabric on your three piece suite.

Personalise it!

Frame photos of your garden or snaps of birds from your last trip to the zoo in a multi view photo frame.

Experiment with:

  • Creating your own masterpiece (no skill required!) Drag watercolour paint across wet paper in your accent colours to create washy, blended strokes which highlight the accent hues of the room.
  • Carefully choose a warm yellow spray paint and rejuvenate unwanted vases, or charity shop finds, to tie them in with your new room. For a modern twist, mask off the top half to create a dip dye effect.

Nature Trail

This month's style tip focusses on adding a fresh touch to your home, to rid you of the winter months. Layering deep forest greens, mineraly sage and acid greens is key to this look, taking inspiration from woodland walks and nature.

Clarke & Clarke - 'Astrid'

Clarke & Clarke - 'Wild Fern'

Sasha Interiors now supply Clarke & Clarke fabrics and wallpapers, offering you a greater choice of styles to inspire. So why not try adding a welcoming touch to your hallway with Clarke & Clarke's Wild Fern wallpaper? The uplifting citrus green is sure to put a smile on your face as you return home. Or for a more subtle and calming effect, try a simple blind and coordinating cushions in your living room, with Clarke & Clarke's 'Astrid' fabric. The soothing mineral green would be offset perfectly by a dark forest green feature wall, keeping you on trend with this year's big colour! Keep the other items in the room in stripped back wood to really get the nature trail effect. (All of the above products are now available from Sasha Interiors, Hereford.)

Personalise it!

Create your own masterpiece by painting leaves collected from the garden and pressing them onto paper, leaving an impression of the beautiful veins, resulting in a sophisticated print for you to frame.

Experiment with:
  • Textures - coarse weaves, peeling paint and wood grains will all add to the organic look.
  • Oriental accessories - vases, paintings or ornaments with a hint towards the orient will add a great twist to this look, complimenting the key colours perfectly.

Lime & Slate

This month's style tip is all about modernising your room and making an impact with a key colour trend; lime green and slate grey. This colour scheme is sure to give you a burst of energy and a vibrant yet sophisticated feel to your home.

Harlequin Delphine Collection
'Camille'

Harlequin Delphine Collection
'Delphinia'

To add a bold statement to your room why not try the above 'Camille' striped fabric in a sleek blind or long, elegant curtains with eyelet headings? Or, to add a more feminine, soft accent to the room, try 'Delphinia' by Harlequin, with its delicate yet contemporary floral pattern, it will add a sense of calm to the shocking colour scheme.  As an alternative and to make the most out of this style, keep the furniture and flooring neutral and add scatter cushions in checks, stripes and florals to draw attention to this punch of colour and the new Harlequin 'Delphine' range, available from Sasha Interiors, Hereford.

Personalise it!

Try adding a large slate chalkboard to keep you on track and to add an earthy, natural tone to the room. Make a feature out of large pebbles collected from your holidays and continue this rustic element. If you don't want to commit to a full set of curtains or blind as suggested above, have a go at painting three large canvases in shades of lime and slate to create a temporary feature wall. ( Zoffany paints are available from Sasha Interiors, Hereford.)

Experiment with:

  • Splashes of bright pink - try adding fuchsia fabric covered buttons to your cushions or throws
  • Glass - adding a new dimension into the colour scheme
